Apply for the Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholars Programme at the University of Cambridge. Established in February 2019, the Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholars Programme was launched with help of an extraordinarily generous donation from the David and Claudia Harding Foundation. This has been considered as the biggest single gift made to a university in the UK by a British philanthropist.
The Scholarships aims to provide outstanding PhD students with life-changing opportunities to research and study at the University of Cambridge. You are welcome to apply for this Scholarships no matter which discipline or country you are coming from. Up to 25 PhD students receive a Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholarship annually
St Catharine’s College will host a number of students under the Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholarships (25-33% each year) reflecting David Harding’s previous association with the College. The remainder will be distributed to other colleges. Here are all the participating colleges: Christ’s College, Churchill College, Clare College, Clare Hall, Darwin College, Downing College, Emmanuel College, Fitzwilliam College, Girton College, Homerton College, Hughes Hall, Jesus College, Lucy Cavendish, Magdalene College, Murray Edwards College, Newnham College, Queens’ College, Robinson College, Selwyn College, Sidney Sussex College, St Catharine’s College, St Edmund’s College, Trinity Hall, Wolfson College
Benefits
Once selected, the Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholarship will cover the following costs for your studies:
- You will receive coverage for your University Composition Fee at the appropriate rate for the duration of your course
- Applicants are eligible for a maintenance allowance covering living costs of up to £20,000 per year for the duration of your course
- Beneficiaries can apply for maintenance funding during the 12 month writing-up period, should this be required
- The scholarship also covers costs involved with acquiring your Visa and costs of the Immigration Surcharge
- You will receive a personal research allowance for your personal research expenses and research-related activities, including books and conference attendance of up to £6,000 over the duration of your course
- A calendar of activities and academic events will also be available to Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholars over the course of each academic year.
Eligibility
In order to apply, you must full fill the following application conditions:
- The Harding Distinguished Scholarships are open to students who wish to applying to pursue a full-time or part-time PhD course of study at the University of Cambridge.
- You are welcome to apply for the scholarship no matter what country you are coming from (Home, EU and Overseas Students).
- Candidates must apply for admission for a postgraduate or PhD course of their interest included in the eligible courses.
- Applicants must secure admission at one of the participating colleges if they wish to be considered for the scholarship
Application
- You will have to apply for the scholarship at the time when you are submitting your application for admission for your preferred course. The university will start accepting applications from September 1, 2023. Remember, deadline vary by Course, so check your course details to find out the deadline for application.
- Begin an application for admission to a postgraduate or PhD course at the college of your choice from the list of eligible college
- Participating colleges include Christ’s College, Churchill College, Clare College, Clare Hall, Darwin College, Downing College, Fitzwilliam College, Girton College, Homerton College, Hughes Hall, Jesus College, Lucy Cavendish College, Magdalene College, Murray Edwards College, Newnham College, Queens’ College, Robinson College, Selwyn College, Sidney Sussex College, St Catharine’s College, St Edmund’s College, Trinity Hall, Wolfson College
- You will not need to provide an additional, bespoke statement specifically for the Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholars Programme (HDPSP).
- Applicants will be able to apply for the scholarship at the when applying for your admission.
- Remember to indicate that you wish to be considered for funding by answering ‘yes’ to the question: ‘Do you wish to apply for funding?’ in the Funding section of the online Graduate Application form.
